Testing Windows Live Writer

Yes, yes y'all - this is great for blogging. Don't worry about logging in to Blogger.com (it's too damn slow) or many of the other bloggging services, simply use a small, MS Word-like desktop application to post, edit and delete your blogs post from the desktop of your computer. Who said everything was better in a web-environment?

Download BETA version here

Let me show you something. This is a screenshot from my computer and it is meant to illustrate the usage of the WLW application.

QR Code (i.e. Quick Response)

So I finally installed the QR Code Kaywa application (bar code reader) for my mobile phone today. Apparantly it's pre-installed in most handsets sold in Japan.

What is QR? It's an abbreviation for "Quick Response" and it's basically a square-shaped, two-dimensional bar code. Its easily generated and it can be attached to anything.

You can put the QR code on anything: a business card, a street poster, a pack of meat in the supermarket or even the back your t-shirt. When you scan the code, using your phone, you're redirected to a specified set of data - often a URL. If you're an advertiser, you can redirect potential customers to directly your website - without asking them to type in a long URL on their mobile. And if you're using a mobile phone, all URLs are too long.

Get all the info on Wikipedia.

Now, I'll do a quick Doc Searls test and test how many "hits" QR Code has today and then follow up in a few months:

Results for "QR Code":

Google - 1.180.000
Technorati - 3.577
Google (Denmark) - 27

qrcode

Guess who the code points to? Ok, it starts with P.....

New Media Daze 2006

Plant is producing the MSN event blog for New Media Days from October 11-12 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Look out for all the updates over the next couple of days and go back to check pictures and micro-interviews whenever you like. Also, we're helping MSN produce MSN MediaCast "on location". A number of the prominant conference speakers (Doc Searls, Herman Gyr, etc.) will participate. We will be recording the podcast at the MSN area.

A bunch of people, including myself, will also contribute to the New Media Days coverage on the New Media Trends blog hosted by FDIM's Jon Lund.
